REPLACEMENT OF JORDANS VILLAGE HALL
Jordans Village Hall has been a central part of this village community ever since it was built in six weeks in 1919 by the original Quaker residents as a temporary structure. As a result, 105 years later, the building has served the community well, but is ageing and it does not meet the building requirements of a modern community structure.
The hall is widely used by the whole community as well as being home to the Jordans Village Nursery School. However, due to its limited space, during nursery hours or any other prior booking it cannot be accessed for any other community activity. Regular hall activities include: Suppers, Lunch Club, Jolly Quaker pop-up pub nights, Jordans Picture House, exercise classes, children’s parties, and much more.
In a poll of residents in 2019 it was agreed that it would be more cost effective and efficient to rebuild the hall as opposed to an extensive refurbishment.
The new Hall will have all the benefits of a design-for-use building having a flexible configuration with movable internal walls to accommodate multiple uses and the diverse needs of a community building. The design of the new Hall will promote energy efficiency measures, low-cost maintenance features and flexible design to maximise usage.
The proposed design was unveiled to the village on 20th April 2024 and a reproduction of that presentation can be watched by clicking on the video below.
A walk-in consultation was held in November 2024, followed by an electronic vote of Jordans residents in January 2025. 47% of voters chose to vote. 183 votes were returned of which 138 were in favour of the proposals presented in April 2024, 42 were against and there were 3 void votes. Consequently, there was a resounding 73% endorsement of the proposed scheme.
The Trustees are now working hard to develop the design with the project architect and adopt (where possible) the ideas received from residents, with a view to seeking full planning permission.
In parallel the Trustees and the fundraising sub-committee are now continuing their fundraising efforts. The fundraising targets are provided in our Proposal document, which you can download by clicking the button below.
